In preclinical environments, particularly those involving immunocompromised rodent models, maintaining sterility is critical. Ludomed’s reusable cotton autoclave bags (also referred to as cage covers) are designed to reduce the risk of contamination by preserving the sterile condition of cages and sensitive laboratory equipment post-autoclaving. These bags can resist ethylene oxide sterilization (ETO).
Our covers act as a physical barrier that shields contents from allergens, airborne pathogens, and unnecessary handling, supporting both biosecurity and animal welfare in highly controlled study settings.
Key Applications
Protection of sterilized rodent cages after ethylene oxide sterilization
Allergen containment and exposure control.
Isolation of animals from contact with technical or non-technical staff.
Use in gnotobiotic or immunocompromised rodent studies.
Covering of sterile medical instruments during transport or storage.
Study Considerations
Although not worn by animals, these covers are essential when housing vulnerable rodent strains (e.g., nude mice, SCID rats) to avoid immune response disruption from environmental exposure. Their use supports institutional animal care protocols and is recommended in facilities requiring barrier conditions.
